‘Horses Explained’ podcast returns for second series
The first episode of series 2 will explore horses' senses.
A popular equine podcast is to return for a second series, World Horse Welfare has revealed.
‘Horses Explained’, which is produced by the charity, will return on Friday, 11 July with a new series exploring how understanding a horse’s body systems can lead to better management.
The weekly episodes will see experts from across the equine field answering questions that horse owners may have about their animal’s care. Presenter Jordan Headspeath will be joined by a number of experts discussing equine care, including neuroscientists, anatomists, behaviourists and farriers.
This latest series follows the launch of the podcast last summer. Among the topics covered in series one were horses’ environments, nutrition and the common behaviour issues a horse owner may encounter.
Every episode of series one is available on the World Horse Welfare website, as well as its YouTube channel. Series 2 will be released every Friday from 11th July, for a total of nine episodes.
The first episode of Series 2 will feature Andrew Hemmings, a specialist in equine behavioural neuroscience. Dr Hemmings will be explaining how listeners can better understand horses’ senses.
Other equine experts featuring will include equine behaviourist Emma Lethbridge, endurance specialist Sarah Coombs, and endocrine specialist Andy Durham.
Rebecca Boulert, World Horse Welfare’s education officer, said: “In this year’s series, we explore the horse’s senses, brain, digestive system, bones and muscles, cardiovascular and respiratory systems, hormones, reproductive systems, and hooves, with the final episode looking at the whole horse.
“Each episode will encourage you to think about how your management can meet the needs of each body system, and how the body system influences horses’ behaviour and needs.
“It was both fascinating and inspiring to hear our experts talking so passionately about their subject during filming – it’s going to be another great series!”
