Another Successful BVNA Congress
The BVNA has said that it was delighted to see so many delegates attend its 37th Annual Congress at Kettering Conference Centre in Northamptonshire during the weekend of 8th-10th October.

The UK's best known veterinary nursing congress presented an array of renowned speakers and offered delegates unlimited high quality CPD during the three day event.

Association Manager Angela Mariconda said “BVNA works very hard to offer great CPD to its delegates as part of its annual congress.  We recognise the increasing importance and to that end BVNA aim to provide a congress that enables veterinary nurses of all levels to build on their knowledge & skills within the profession.  I am delighted to say that the feedback received from delegates this year has once again been extremely positive.”

The congress social programme was also a complete sell out. The quiz night on the Friday was a great success and all monies raised were donated to the BVNA Charity of the Year ‘Animals Asia’. On the Saturday evening delegates also enjoyed probably their first Christmas party of the year!  Fancy dress was once again very popular with an array of elves, fairies, and Santas plus a few Grinchs to name but a few!

DAERA to reduce BVD 'grace period'

DAERA has reminded herd keepers of an upcoming reduction to the 'grace period' to avoid BVD herd restrictions.

From 1 May 2025, herd keepers will have seven days to cull any BVD positive or inconclusive animals to avoid restrictions being applied to their herd.

It follows legislation introduced on 1 February, as DAERA introduces herd movement restrictions through a phased approach. Herd keepers originally had 28 days to cull BVD positive or inconclusive animals.

DAERA says that, providing herd keepers use the seven-day grace period, no herds should be restricted within the first year of these measures.

Additional measures, which will target herds with animals over 30 days old that haven't been tested for BVD, will be introduced from 1 June 2025.

More information is available on the DAERA website.
