CQ launches bursary scheme
Applications invited for £500 bursaries.

Central Qualifications (CQ) is delighted to announce the introduction of an educational bursary scheme, aimed at students enrolling on a CQ course at an approved Training Centre within the UK.

A number of bursaries to the value of £500 will be awarded each year, and are designed to help students meet the costs associated with undertaking veterinary nurse training.

This year CQ's Diploma in Veterinary Nursing (DipVN) will be taught at a number of colleges and centres across the country, and all students set to enrol are invited to apply for the bursary scheme. The closing date for applications is 31st August 2012, and the successful applicants will receive their bursaries in November.

Central Qualifications is a nationally recognised awarding body for veterinary nursing and animal related qualifications. Dedicated to high standards of vocational learning, CQ offers the DipVN in Small Animals, with the Diploma in Equine Veterinary Nursing to be available soon.

DAERA to reduce BVD 'grace period'

DAERA has reminded herd keepers of an upcoming reduction to the 'grace period' to avoid BVD herd restrictions.

From 1 May 2025, herd keepers will have seven days to cull any BVD positive or inconclusive animals to avoid restrictions being applied to their herd.

It follows legislation introduced on 1 February, as DAERA introduces herd movement restrictions through a phased approach. Herd keepers originally had 28 days to cull BVD positive or inconclusive animals.

DAERA says that, providing herd keepers use the seven-day grace period, no herds should be restricted within the first year of these measures.

Additional measures, which will target herds with animals over 30 days old that haven't been tested for BVD, will be introduced from 1 June 2025.

More information is available on the DAERA website.
